Cardinals OC Fraga defines hard work, preparation

HARLINGEN — Cardinals offensive coordinator Robert Fraga has football down to a science.

Literally.

The AP physics teacher at Harlingen High School is in his 15th year coaching football and first as OC for his alma mater, the Cardinals.

Fraga was raised on one philosophy: hard work pays off.

From his parents to his coaches at Harlingen, Fraga's used his upbringing to get ahead in life.

And whether it's teaching in the classroom or the practice field, Fraga instills the same work ethic and values to his students and athletes.

Rio Hondo falls short against Sinton

SINTON — Rio Hondo literally saw the game slip right out of its hands.

Trailing by seven, Rio Hondo got the ball to the Sinton 10-yard line and had momentum on its side with less than five minutes to play.

But quarterback Juan Puga fumbled the ball at the 2-yard line and the Pirates recovered and went on to defeat a scrappy Rio Hondo squad, 28-21.

Sinton improved to 10-1 and will face Pearsall in the area round. Rio Hondo ends its season at 5-6.

Bobcats feeling confident vs. Sinton

SINTON — The records don’t suggest it, but the Rio Hondo Bobcats fully expect to compete and win tonight against the Sinton Pirates.

That’s half the battle.

The Cats (5-5) will try and accomplish the other half—on the field— against the 9-1 Pirates in their Class 3A Division-II bi-district game at Pirate Stadium.

“We feel good. We’ve watched a lot of film on Sinton and we’ve put in our work,” Rio Hondo head coach Rocky James said. “We’re ready to go and the kids are excited.”

Line leading Rio Hondo's surge

RIO HONDO — The Rio Hondo Bobcat defensive line is made up of characters.

They’re also pretty good football players.

The personable group will look to be on its game Friday when the Bobcats visit Sinton in their Class 3A Division-II bi-district matchup.

The foursome consists of end Freddy Gonzalez, Manny Melendez, Randy Rodriguez and end E.J. Castaneda. Gonzalez and Castaneda are sophomores.
