32-4A Notebook: Solis, E-E now are looking ahead

This week is usually a time when Edcouch-Elsa is preparing for the playoffs. For the past six seasons, they’ve come into this week thinking about a long run in the playoffs to go with another District 32-4A championship.

Now, the ’Jackets are thinking about next year.

E-E heads into offseason with victory

ROMA - For the first time since 2002, the Yellowjackets’ season ended in Week 10. They ended a disappointing campaign with a 21-14 win over the Roma Gladiators, who were trying to finish the season at 5-5.

E-E coach Joe Solis conceded that it was difficult to keep his team motivated for the season’s final week. Unlike the past six seasons, 2009 won’t end with a district championship or even a playoff berth.

Bird Bowl XVII has special meaning for AD Randy Cretors

HARLINGEN — Friday's going to be pretty special for Randy Cretors.

Cretors coached the Harlingen Cardinals from 2000-2006 before taking over his current post with the school district. Actually, Cretors started coaching at Harlingen in 1993 when the school district split into two high schools. Now in his third year as Harlingen CISD Athletic Director, Cretors still gets "the juices flowing" every Friday night just before a game.

The juices will be flowing tonight as Harlingen takes on Harlingen South in Bird Bowl XVII at Boggus Stadium.

Roma, E-E to finish season

The Yellowjackets and Gladiators will look to finish out their season tonight at Gladiator Arena. A win would be meaningful for both teams, albeit for different reasons.

E-E (3-6, 2-4) will try to end its first non-playoff season since 2002 on a positive note while the Gladiators (4-5, 1-5) will try to beat the ‘Jackets for the first time in school history and gain a .500 record on the season.
